Belong to a vibrant community at Alkimos Vista
Feeling a sense of belonging is so much more than being acquainted with a place, and for many of us it starts with finding a welcoming space to foster new connections.
In the heart of Alkimos Vista, you’ll find Sprout Hub – a café and community gathering space that provides residents with the perfect place to meet neighbours, host events and gather.
An initiative by development partners Lendlease and DevelopmentWA, Sprout Hub’s goal is to help establish early community connections at Alkimos Vista as the estate begins to grow and develop.
Known locally as ‘a little place for a little while’, the Hub will remain at Alkimos Vista until at least 2024, continuing to provide important social infrastructure that will serve as a meeting point for the community until more permanent cafes, shops and gathering places are established.
A place for locals, run by locals
Sprout Hub opened at Alkimos Vista in 2019, when there were only a few permanent residents. Since then, the community has grown exponentially, now boasting more than 130 households with many more homes under construction as new development stages are released. Most visitors to Sprout Hub live locally, and many bring family members or friends to visit and enjoy the surrounds of the adjacent Picasso Park.
The Sprout Hub café is operated by a team of locals, who serve up great barista coffee and a range of light bites every Thursday to Sunday. They’re always happy to answer questions and can provide insights into life at Alkimos Vista, because they live right here!
The Sprout Hub Alkimos Vista Impact Scorecard study found that 63%^ of visitors to the Hub made a new friend during their visit, while 62%^ said it gave them more opportunity to participate in local groups, helping to build relationships and foster social connections in their new neighbourhood.
Supporting small business
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Sprout Hub has become an increasingly important business hub for the Alkimos Vista community. More than 50%^ of visitors to Sprout Hub work from home or run a small business, and 63%^ reported that the Hub provided additional support for their business during the pandemic, simply by being a place to work from and meet clients safely. Plus, the great coffee and fast, free Wi-Fi is a great bonus!
Together with supporting local businesses, the ‘Meet the Local Artist’ initiative has showcased the work of more than eight local makers over the past two years. Local artisans are encouraged to apply for the opportunity to show and sell their creations at Sprout Hub – and it’s a real treat to browse the interesting wares while waiting for your coffee!
Building strong community
Sprout Hub provides a venue for school holiday workshops and regular classes, as well as being home to many local groups. Alkimos Boomerang Bags, a local sewing group, meet at Sprout Hub every Thursday, and Little Sprouts Meet Ups – a welcoming playgroup for local families – meet on Fridays during the cooler months of the year. The Seedling Fund, an initiative that reinvests 10c from every dollar spent in the café back into the local community, helps to propel the growth of new local groups and events at Sprout.
Aiming to fund projects that contribute to the development of a strong community at Alkimos Vista, the Seedling Fund is an opportunity for locals to get behind new initiatives and events for the neighbourhood. In 2021, the Seedling Fund donated to Alkimos Boomerang Bags, Alkimos Surf Lifesaving Club and supported the Alkimos Vista Christmas festival. Sprout Hub is free to use for all community groups who call Alkimos Vista home, and new groups can apply by contacting the team at hello@sprouthub.com.au.
Surrounded by parkland
Surrounding Sprout Hub is the 2.5ha Picasso Park, which includes the Cancer Council’s first-ever endorsed SunSMART playground, offering a shady, expansive, and creative play experience for kids.
Picasso Park also offers an open green space for the community to enjoy, with free Wi-Fi and benches equipped with charging points. For sports lovers, there’s a full-size basketball court and an oval with AFL goal posts at one end. For fitness enthusiasts, the running track has distance markers, and there’s a range of outdoor gym equipment. There is also a table tennis table, grassy picnic areas and shaded BBQ tables to enjoy.
Experience it for yourself
Sprout Hub is helping to build a thriving community at Alkimos Vista, through casual connections over coffee, and as a place for groups to meet.
If you’re thinking of building your dream home in Perth’s coastal north, take a drive to Alkimos Vista where you can join the locals at Sprout Hub for a coffee and a chat.
The café is open from 9am to 1pm every Thursday to Sunday on Picasso Promenade, Alkimos Vista. You can also follow the Sprout Hub Facebook page for upcoming workshops and events.
