Hundreds Flock To Alkimos Beach For Surf Life Saving WA Carnival

Over 250 Nippers from Perth’s Northern Surf Life Saving Clubs descended on Alkimos Beach last week for its second Alkimos Development Carnival

This is the second year in a row that Alkimos Beach played host to the Surf Life Saving WA event following last year’s inaugural Alkimos Beach development carnival with close to 1000 spectators enjoying the event.

Spectators cheered on as competitors from U10’s to U13’s challenged each other in events such as swim and board races, beach flags and a Cameron relay.

Alkimos Surf Life Saving Club President Garry Bunford said that the event was a huge success and was the perfect way to showcase the continued growth of the club.

“The Nippers had a great time and overall the carnival ran very smoothly. I would like to thank all the Surf Life Saving WA staff for their support and to all the Club volunteers for their hard work and dedication involved in pulling off the event.” Said Mr Bunford.

“I would also like to thank the local community for their continuous support. Seeing so may new members join this year along with all the spectators is a great feeling” He said.

In its second year of operation, Alkimos Surf Life Saving Club was continued to be one of the fastest growing surf clubs in the northern suburbs. Club has hit record number of 340 registrations as well as commenced volunteer beach patrols, a major milestone for any new club.

Alkimos Beach and Alkimos Vista development partners LandCorp and Lendlease have recently renewed their partnership with Surf Life Saving WA to continue to deliver BeachSAFE programs free for the local community and support the thriving community group and surf club amenity.

General Manager of Communities WA, Anthony Rowbottam, said the Surf Life Saving Club has become an important part of the Alkimos Beach and Alkimos Vista community.

“Having an opportunity to host these carnivals is a fantastic opportunity for Alkimos Beach and Alkimos Vista to bring the community together, showcasing the tremendous progress the Club has made and attracting visitors from across Perth” Said Mr Rowbottam.
