Come out to Celebrate Alkimos Beach's new oval

If you can spike it, pass it, kick it or shoot it, it will be at the Alkimos Beach Multi-Sport Day and oval launch on Sunday March 29th.

The event will run from 10am – 2pm and will feature demonstrations, skills and drills from a range of sports to officially celebrate the opening of the new senior size oval at Alkimos Beach.

Among the sports participating are Netball WA, Volleyball WA, WA Australian Football League and Rugby WA. Residents will also be able to sign up for clubs on the day.

A local Kung Fu club will join in the action along with a range of other health and fitness providers. Other fun activities include face painting, a mobile climbing wall and local music. Pop up vans will be selling food, drinks and icy treats.

Lendlease General Manager of the communities business in WA, Anthony Rowbottam, said that the oval was delivered early to support an active and healthy lifestyle at Alkimos Beach and the event would be a perfect way for the community to celebrate and get involved.

“The oval has been in use since January. Through a recent EOI run by the City of Wanneroo applications from two clubs were successful and now the oval will be a Regional Centre for Auskick and host Brighton Sea Hawks junior football club games.”

LandCorp chief executive officer Frank Marra said that Alkimos Beach is focused on delivering infrastructure early, and in many cases, prior to people moving in.

“We appreciate that parks and open spaces are required by residents, not just as a place to play, as they create community by providing shared places for people to meet, encourage an active lifestyle and enhance community safety by getting people out and about,”

The oval is situated adjacent to the site of Alkimos Beach’s first public primary school that has been confirmed by the Department of Education as opening Term 1  2017 and will accommodate green space for the school during and after school hours. Planning is also underway for a future sports pavilion, multi-use space and floodlighting for this space.

Alkimos Beach is a LandCorp and Lendlease partnership and the oval is also supported by the City of Wanneroo.
