FIFO Families on board at Alkimos Beach

Leading social support and education provider to the resources sector, FIFO Families, has entered into a landmark agreement with partners Lendlease and LandCorp to assist residents in the newly established northern Perth development of Alkimos Beach.

Based on its early research, Lendlease anticipates approximately 15% of the 6500 residents in the Alkimos Beach development will either be working on a fly-in, fly-out basis themselves or belong to families where one or more members are FIFO workers.

The partners have sought to cater for this population by engaging FIFO Families to provide a range of support and education services over the next three years.

FIFO Families founder and director Nicole Ashby said: “Lendlease and LandCorp are setting new industry standards in Western Australia for socio-economic and environmental sustainability and it’s great to see such awareness of the issues facing FIFO workers and their families and ensuring the right support is available to the residents of Alkimos Beach.

“This partnership demonstrates it is no longer just the resources and construction companies employing FIFO workers that are giving consideration to the unique needs of this important subset of the community.”

As part of the agreement, FIFO Families will conduct a series of workshops for Alkimos Beach residents on how to make the most of the FIFO lifestyle and will provide discounted premium memberships on the days those workshops are held.

Ms Ashby founded FIFO Families in July 2010, having experienced the challenges of living the FIFO lifestyle first-hand.

With her husband, Joe, working in the offshore oil and gas industry on a four-week on, four-week off roster since 2008, she had to adapt to being a sole parent to three young children for long periods at a time.

FIFO Families now has more than 15,000 members across Australia and New Zealand and counts some of the country’s largest mining, energy and contracting companies as its partners.
