Western Land Services and Brotherhood of St Laurence ‘Given the Chance Program’

In early 2018, Lendlease entered into a partnership with Western Land Services and Brotherhood of St Laurence ‘Given the Chance Program’. These partnerships provide employment opportunities for socially disadvantaged Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Migrants to undertake land and park maintenance works on the Aurora project.

Since the program started, four local people have commenced employment on the Aurora project undertaking a vast array of horticultural tasks maintaining the parks and open spaces. This includes weed management, brush cutting, mowing and litter collection. This employment has been a life changing opportunity for these men.

In October 2018, Lendlease commenced a collaboration with Narrap – the Wurrundjeri Land Council Land Management Team. Narrap are sharing traditional cultural knowledge with our team about how to care for country at Aurora. Narrap, in collaboration with the Western Land Services and the Brotherhood of St Laurence partnership, recently undertook fire prevention measures at Aurora by brush cutting the perimeter of the undeveloped land to ensure fire risks are mitigated throughout the warmer months.

The Aurora team are very proud of the collaboration and the outcomes we are achieving together.
