Aurora’s brand new high school is on the way. The Victorian School Building Authority has announced on its website that the target is for the school curriculum to be operational (initially at Mernda Central) by Term 1 next year – 6 months ahead of the original schedule.

While Edgars Creek Secondary College is still just a working name, what has been confirmed is that the school will eventually offer 1800 student placements for kids between years 7 to 12. This will be a coeducational school. Located on the corner of Steen Avenue and Edgars Road, the high school will be part of a greater community precinct which, in the future, will include a primary school and community centre.

Edgars Creek Secondary College will have a focus on project-based learning in the areas of design, technology and the sciences, according to the Victorian School Building Authority. Expect a two-storey, cutting edge STEM building with science labs and digital technology spaces created specifically to encourage sharing of ideas and contemporary teaching practices. $12 million has been allocated by the State Government of Victoria just to the construction of the school.

Since the school is a community resource, many of the facilities will be able to be shared with the greater Aurora community including the two-storey library and administration building and the oval.

The project to get Aurora’s secondary college up and running is now at design stage with the ground breaking and construction to begin in this current quarter of 2017 and the Principal to be appointed and enrolments received in Quarter 3 of this year.
