Aurora Multicultural Festival 2017
Block out your diaries for Saturday 27 May as the Aurora Multicultural Festival is back.
There will be at least 16 different cultures represented on the day and this year’s theme will be focused on the Middle Eastern. Expect to see lots of colourful costumes, dancing, food and music from all around the world including 10 to 15 performances from local community groups.
This year includes performances by comedian James Liotta, the Rhythm of Life African drummers, a live DJ, a belly dance workshop, a cultural fashion parade and many activities just for the Aurora kids.
The Aurora Multicultural Festival is an entirely community based event – the performers and contributors live in Aurora and its surrounds and the day is organised by community volunteers to foster a sense of pride and care for one another amongst the Aurora residents.
“Whittlesea is the third most multicultural community in Victoria,” said Councillor City of Whittlesea Mary Lalios at last year’s festival. “This event epitomises everything that’s fantastic about Whittlesea.”
“The great vision is everyone being as one, working together, enjoying each other’s culture and sharing each other’s culture,” agreed then Mayor of the City of Cr Stevan Kozmevski, also at the 2016 event. “[W]e’re all richer and better for it. Understanding, respecting and loving one another.”
Indeed, with between 600 to 800 Aurora residents expected to attend, the Aurora Multicultural Festival is a great place to meet some new friends, learn to understand and celebrate your neighbours and find out more about what is happening in your community in a family friendly and alcohol free environment.
