Bridge opening provides convenient community connection

Toolern Creek bridge crossing open

School children from Melton South Primary School joined Lendlease and the City of Melton on 26th October 2018 to celebrate the official opening of the new bridge linking Atherstone to Melton South.

The Mayor, Cr Bob Turner, cut the ribbon to formally declare the bridge open as the primary school children came charging across the bridge from Melton South, completing the connection between the two sides.

The new Toolern Creek crossing at Bridge Road provides the existing Melton community convenient access to Atherstone’s new train station in Cobblebank, currently under construction as part of the Ballarat Line Upgrade, as well as providing a direct route to the Western Freeway.

General Manager of Lendlease’s Communities business in Victoria, Tom Trevaskis, said that the bridge connection provides the community with a second crossing point to the existing Melton train station and shopping centre.

“This connection will improve accessibility, the flow of traffic and reduce overall commute times for residents.

“The delivery of core infrastructure and essential services is at the heart of creating a truly sustainable community and that is our vision for Atherstone.

“This vital piece of infrastructure will enhance the daily lives of Atherstone and neighbouring Melton South residents.”
