Katherine Montesarno is General Manager at Urban 35 (formerly Red Pebble Café) at Western BACE in Atherstone and Stone Bar & Grill. She has worked in Melton for over 10 years so, for her, the area feels like home.

Why did you decide to set up both your businesses in the Melton area?
Melton is a growing area with a strong and diverse community and we wanted to develop a business that would put Melton on the map. It’s a very friendly area and the local community are always willing to support local businesses.

Why did you chose the Western BACE at Atherstone to set up Urban 35? What do you like about it?
We chose Western BACE due to the growing population [in the area] and the outstanding facilities for small businesses being offered there.

Why is the Atherstone community a good place to live?
It is country living 35 kilometres from the city. Atherstone offers a lot of facilities from Western BACE to the local community centre (Bridge Road Children’s and Community Centre) the little athletics (at the Bridge Road Athletics Precinct) and the amazing parks.

Who are your regular customers at Western BACE?
We have a vast array of customers who come through from the small business owners who reside in the building to other local businesses and council representatives. Not to mention the lovely residents from the Atherstone community.

Who are some of the local suppliers that you use?
Were ever possible we use local suppliers depending on the season. [We use] Tripod Farms, Bacchus Marsh Florist and Love Tease who occupy an office at the Western BACE selling an amazing range of tea.

What is your favourite menu item on the Urban 35 menu?
My favourite is the Urban 35 Burger with a Honeycomb Chocolate Mudslide Crazy Shake. The burger is succulent and paired with the shake it’s a great way to enjoy my afternoon.

Do you do offsite catering?
Yes, we offer an extensive catering menu typically supplying to local council, schools and small businesses.

What’s next in the future for Urban 35?
We are looking at expanding our offsite catering business to a standalone company.
