Local Business Profile: The Booth Box

ATH_LocalBusiness_banner.jpg

Thinking of upgrading your work from home business at Atherstone to a commercial premesis? Then consider the Western BACE as an option. Owner of The Booth Box, Maria Abacan, did just that and found that it helped her focus more on the business and grow it into three separate companies.

Why did you move The Booth Box to Western BACE at Atherstone?

We officially launched The Booth Box in May 2012. Before moving into Western BACE at Atherstone, we operated the business from home. Being a mobile business we travel across Melbourne and surrounding suburbs to setup photobooths for all types of events.

Alongside our growing business, we also have a young family (two kids). In the earlier days of our business, it was easy to operate from home. Now that we have kids, operating from home can be very distracting. I found myself getting a lot less completed and it was hard to focus when you have the distractions of household chores. I needed to start separating home life and business.

I tried a few different co-working spaces, but finally found Western BACE at Atherstone. Of all the coworking spaces [I tried], I thought Western BACE had the best facilities and it was only a short drive from where I live. It is modern, spacious, there is plenty of parking and they had facilities such as meeting rooms, a digital hub, fast internet, kitchen and a café with good coffee!

The best part of being located at Western BACE at Atherstone is definitely the location. I love that I’m driving against traffic in the morning and that it’s only a short drive from home. It’s convenient and as my business grows, I have space that can accommodate my growth.

What does The Booth Box do?

We have 3 brands: The Booth BoxShutterbooth and Photobooth Design Co. Through these brands, we hire our photobooths for events, design and manufacture booths for those wanting to start their own business and we supply photobooth related products to the booth industry.

What makes photobooths different from just a normal photographer or taking your own selfies?

It’s hard to go to an event these days without seeing a photobooth. People love a photobooth because it’s so much fun and is totally entertaining. They can go crazy and wear silly hats and glasses and take candid shots with their friends and loved ones. Best of all, they get to walk away with an amazing branded print that they can look back on to remember how much fun they had.

The traditional booth has also evolved over the years; [now] photos and GIFs can be shared directly onto social media. The booth has definitely become very popular as a photo marketing tool for corporate companies wanting to grow their social media presence.

Who are some of the companies The Photo Booth has worked with?

Over the years we’ve had the pleasure to work with many industry leaders including Tiffany & Co., Loreal, Westpac, ANZ, NAB, Bunnings, Hoyts, Jetstar, Sandwich Chefs, Brown Brothers, The Smith Family, LaTrobe University, The University of Melbourne, Australia Post, Simonds, Mitsubishi, Fremantle Media, Zendesk, Renault, Myer, NEC, Telstra, Hoyts, Monash University, DHL, Medibank, Kiehl's, Origin Energy, McDonald’s and Samsung.

There are many more companies but those are a few that come to mind. We’ve had some pretty crazy events and have provided many types of creative photobooth solutions.

Do you hire out your photo booths to individuals for private parties? What types of events are the most popular?

We hire our photobooths for all types of events. They are very popular for weddings, engagements, milestone birthdays, bar mitzvahs and anniversaries.

Shutterbooth is our sister company that handles most of our hire in Melbourne and we have packages starting from $450.
