Yarrabilba's birthday bash goes off with a bang

It was the party of the year as around 4,000 people slipped on their dancing shoes and gathered with friends and family to celebrate Yarrabilba’s 10th birthday on Sunday, August 28th 2022.

Yarrabilba’s birthday bash went off with a bang as thousands of partygoers came together to celebrate a momentous milestone for our community – our 10th year as a thriving, vibrant township.

There was excitement in the air as young, old and all ages in-between descended on McKinnon Oval, bringing their appetite for an afternoon of rides, entertainment, music and food.

A showcase of how far our community has come in a decade, it was amazing to see some of our very first residents enjoying the festivities, as well as meeting some fresh new faces and families who have recently decided to call Yarrabilba home.

As the party kicked off at 2pm, the crowds were ready to bust a move for the local performers who took to the main stage. These included our talented local students from Yarrabilba State School, Yarrabilba State Secondary College, and song and dance acts from local Logan organisation, the Village Green Theatre Group. At 3pm, renowned Brisbane band, The Vybez got partygoers on their feet, playing an electric mix of soul and RnB tunes.

It was wonderful to see our community come together to connect and form new friendships with their fellow neighbours.  It was also a great opportunity to introduce the public to the Founding Principal of Yarrabilba’s new state school, Aaron Jones and the new leadership team, who answered questions and provided the first sneak peek of the future facility.

The new $68.6 million state school, located in The Parks, will open to students from Prep to Year 6 in 2023 and will feature dedicated learning and play areas and a learning kitchen.

The party activations included our Lendlease Community Grant recipients, 5Fold Ltd, REKON Youth, Dunamis Church, OzHarvest, Logan Rivers Early Years Network & Curious Me, who put on some fun and interactive activities for the kids. The Logan City Council Social Planning team where there to chat with residents about the new Buzz Community Hub that is due to open later this year.

As the sun set, the live entertainment continued to get the crowd on their feet before everyone looked to the sky for a firework send off.

From its humble beginnings, Yarrabilba has developed into a connected community which our residents are proud to call home. Home to approximately 10,000 and growing, there is a lot to be excited about for our future.

A big thank you goes to all our community groups and stakeholders who volunteered their time to be part of the event and engage with residents. There are so many stakeholders who helped behind the scenes to ensure the event was a success.

A celebration of our evolving community, thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate our special birthday event.

A big shoutout to everyone who played a part in bringing the celebrations to life – we couldn’t have done it without you;
