Yarrabilba youth take centre stage

A place for young performers to fit in or stand out, Village Green Theatre Group is encouraging children from Prep- Year 12, to take centre stage in a fun, supportive and creative environment.

Village Green Theatre Group President and Yarrabilba resident Jo Connolly said the recently launched youth theatre program creates inclusive pathways to theatre and performance, shining a light on Yarrabilba’s talented young artists.

“We were founded in 2018 as a theatre group and opened our youth theatre this year. We moved into Yarrabilba State Secondary College for rehearsals and shows in 2021,” she said.

“For the youth theatre, our classes are juniors (prep- year 6) and seniors (Year 7-Year 12). We have a broad age range within the theatre and also a diverse pool of talent.

“Our youth program teaches stagecraft, singing and choreography as well as valuable lifelong skills such as teamwork, confidence and problem solving. It’s a great way to teach children how to think creatively through imagination, it builds confidence, develops vocabulary skills and of course is lots of fun.”

The Village Green Theatre Group was founded by a passionate group of theatre lovers four years ago, with a vision of bringing community theatre to Logan and surrounding suburbs, and providing a platform for inspiring actors to shine bright.

In the four years since its opening the theatre group has put on six shows and are in rehearsal for their seventh, “The old people are revolting.”

“It’s exciting for our theatre group to now call Yarrabilba home and welcome the younger inspiring actors into our community,” said Jo.

“We have big dreams for the future of our group including growing our classes to offer more options with days and age groups, offer performance workshops to both adults and youth and put on a show that has a cast of both adults and youth.”
