Introducing the Founding Principal of Yarrabilba's new state school
Paving the way for the future leaders of tomorrow, Founding Principal of Yarrabilba’s new state primary school, Aaron Jones is excited to step into the new role when the school gates open in 2023.
Growing up in the region, Mr Jones attended primary school in Logan and started his career as a teacher at Rochedale State School in 2005. He has been a principal at numerous schools including Condamine State School, Moffatdale State School, Goombungee State School and most recently Murgon State School.
“I am really honoured and excited to be selected as Foundation Principal for the new school in Yarrabilba. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, both professionally and personally,” said Mr Jones.
“I’m looking forward to returning home and settling back into the local community where I grew up.
“The area is family-oriented and growing rapidly; and I want to spend the next three-six months talking to people and really listening, to see what they want from their new school and how we can shape that into the vision and values that will guide future staff and students. I’m looking forward to working closely with local schools, early years and other education providers to support young people to transition effectively.”
The new $68.6 million state school, located in The Parks, will open to students from Prep to Year 6 in 2023 and will feature dedicated learning and play areas.
Stage One of the school will include an administration building, Prep and junior learning spaces, a resource centre, multi-purpose hall, canteen, car parking, amenities and an oval, providing excellent educational facilities to the community.
“The is an amazing opportunity to help establish the foundations for a new school in Yarrabilba, working with the local community to create a school they are proud to call their own,” said Mr Jones.
“I’m very passionate about education – it’s one of the most important things for our future generations and set them on a path for success.
“I’m excited for the inclusion of our practical kitchen space that we hope to use in collaboration with parents and the wider community.”
The new primary school will be the fifth school for Yarrabilba, which will have a total of 11 schools on completion.
The State Government and Lendlease have previously announced an investment of more than $24 million to provide vital new infrastructure to service the new school.
The catchment map for the new school will be available in Term 3, 2022.
