The September school holidays are fast approaching, but don’t fret if you aren’t organised! We’ve taken the stress out of your school holiday planning with our go-to guide of great local activities.

Let’s uncover what’s happening just beyond your backyard.

1. Clay: Kids Studio Program, Ipswich Art Gallery, Saturday 16 September - Monday 2 October
Let your little ones unlock their creative side as Ipswich Art Gallery hosts an exciting clay workshop! This is a great way for kids to strengthen their motor skills, improve dexterity and more importantly, get their hands dirty. Workshops are free for kids however, registrations are essential. For more information or to secure your spot, see more here.

2. Orion Springfield Central Shopping Centre, Springfield, Sunday 17 September
Whether it’s Sunday markets or a fun workshop for the kids, there’s plenty to see and do these school holidays at Orion Springfield Central Shopping Centre. Head to the local markets for a family-fun day on Sunday 17 September and browse through a range of yummy food and local crafts. For a full schedule check their website.

3. Active Kids sessions, Silver Jubilee Park, commencing Thursday 21 September
If your kids love to run around, or you’re just looking for some easy ways to get the kids off the screen, then look no further than these Active Kids sessions! With three sessions throughout the day, kids can have some fun with a circus class, try their skills out at soccer or level up in a bootcamp.

Run by City of Ipswich, all three workshops are located at Silver Jubilee Park meaning it’s close to home and it won’t cost and arm and a leg. For more info, visit the Ipswich City Council page.

4. Ipswich Nature Centre, Queens Park, anytime
Step outside and see some of the beautiful Australian wildlife we have in our own backyard at the Ipswich Nature Centre. Hang out with animals, walk through luscious, landscaped gardens, and learn a thing or two at the Nature Centre these school holidays.

The centre is open six days a week and located within Queens Park. It’s free to enter, however we recommend popping in a gold coin donation to keep up their great work!

5. YMCA Springfield Lakes Community Centre, Springfield Lakes, anytime
The local Springfield YMCA is dialling up the fun these school holidays. With a range of exciting activities for the kids, (like this Silent Disco on Thursday, 28 September), the centre is a great place for your little ones to meet new friends, build skills and try something new. Check the YMCA website for a full schedule.

6. Spring Mountain Conservation Estate, White Rock, anytime
They say the best things in life are free and at Spring Mountain Conservation Estate, you can certainly explore what hidden gems Springfield have to offer.

Get the heart rate up with a family hike or bike ride, walk through the lush bushland, spot a bird or some native Aussie wildlife, or just enjoy a leisurely stroll through the park.
