An exciting new 2-hectare park is coming to our Shoreline community, a place for children young and young at heart to run, jump and scale to new heights.
Construction has officially commenced this month, a step forward to creating unique and imaginative play spaces with an impressive 8.5m lighthouse and jetty play structure at the heart of it all.
Redland Coast Mayor Karen Williams was joined by a local Elder, Lendlease Head of Queensland, Communities Ian Murray and First Nations students from Redland Bay State School for the official welcome to country, performance by local traditional dancers and sod turning event on Thursday, April 21.
The First Nations students were invited to participate in a ceremonial tree planting on site of Jingeri Park. In years to come, they will be able to visit the park and remember the day they planted the tree, creating the foundations for our community’s future.
Visitors and special guests were also able to view the students’ art on Shoreline Avenue, which were created from a cultural workshop with First Nations artist Libby Harward.
Jingeri Park draws its name from the Danggan Balum (Five Rivers) people, where Jingeri means ‘greeting all of you’ in the Yugambeh language. The park has been designed as the perfect gathering point for members of the wider community and has been carefully planned with a focus on sustainable, green placemaking.
Once complete Jingeri Park will feature ample green space, several shade shelters, a hillclimber, a velocity carousel and sand digger play equipment. The lighthouse and jetty play structure will be a big drawcard for children and have been designed to reflect the rich history and notable landmarks of the area.
Lendlease Head of Queensland, Communities Ian Murray said the sod-turning marks a key milestone for our rapidly growing community.
“The sod-turning event on Shoreline’s first community park, Jingeri Park is an exciting new chapter in the story of Redland Bay, delivering a vital community asset that will encourage local residents and visitors to come together and enjoy the very best of our region.
“This unique space has been thoughtfully designed to pay tribute to the bayside setting of the Shoreline community and the broader character of the Redlands. Lendlease worked closely with a team of urban designers and landscape architects from Vee Designs, along with the traditional owners of the land – the Danggan Balun (Five Rivers) people – to create a vibrant space for future residents of all ages to connect and enjoy.”
Redland Coast Mayor Karen Williams said Jingeri Park will meet the needs of families now and into the future.
“As our first major masterplanned community, Council supports Shoreline as a responsible approach to meeting the future housing needs of families who want to call Redlands Coast home,” Mayor Karen Williams said.
“We are a city of wonderful parks and Shoreline’s Jingeri Park will be a major asset not just for local residents but the southern Redlands in what will be a showcase residential community.
We can’t wait to see this amazing play space come to life over the coming months.
