New satellite hospital offers increased health services to Shoreline and Redland Bay residents

The Redlands Satellite Hospital has now opened its doors to the public, offering increased healthcare services for the booming region.

The $43.8 million Redlands Satellite Hospital has opened its doors to much fanfare and delight of local residents who now have access to increased healthcare services closer to home.

During its grand unveiling on Saturday, 19th August, residents toured the new building while learning about the health services on offer and meeting hospital staff, all while enjoying a sausage sizzle and family entertainment.

The opening of the satellite hospital is set to take pressure off emergency departments and major hospitals in the region while meeting the demand for a fast-growing population in the Redlands.

Located on Meissner Street in Redland Bay – just a short drive from the Shoreline community – the Redlands Satellite Hospital is home to a range of specialist services, including:

  • A minor injury and illness clinic
  • Renal dialysis unit
  • Cancer day unit
  • Outpatient dialysis and chemotherapy services
  • Outpatient nursing and allied health services
  • Outpatient mental health services

The facility also boasts medical imaging and diagnostic services, including ultrasound, X-ray and pathology.

Metro South Health has stated the hospital has the capacity to deliver the following on a weekly basis:

  • Walk-in care for up to 490 patients for minor injuries and illnesses
  • 144 kidney dialysis treatments
  • 90 chemotherapy treatments
  • 280 outpatient appointments.

In additional good news for Shoreline residents and the region’s health services, multi-million-dollar expansions are underway at Redlands Hospital, which include a 28-bed modular ward expansion and Stage 1 Major Hospital Expansion, delivering 37 extra beds and a new ICU.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said these types of hospitals are needed to keep pace with the increased demand for health services as Queensland’s population grows.

“The Redlands Satellite Hospital will be a game changer for the region,” she said.

“Not only will the facility alleviate the pressure felt in the emergency department, but it will also become a safe space for local patients accessing renal dialysis and chemotherapy treatments.”
