Community Grants Program helps re engage and empower Redland youth
A partnership between Lendlease and the Community Enterprise Foundation, the Shoreline Community Grants Program is an initiative which aims to build capacity of local community groups, not-for-profits and social enterprises through projects and initiatives that support environmental, economic and social outcomes.
Since the program’s inception in 2021, close to $9,000 in funds has been awarded to local projects within the Redland Bay community. This latest round is open until June 4 and offers grants from a total funding pool of $5,000.
Linda and Paul from The Cage Foundation in Redland Bay were thrilled to be awarded a Shoreline Community Grant in 2021, using the funds to purchase quality tools for their skills-based project component of Cage Engage; Skateboard Building.
“With the funding support from Shoreline’s Community Grants program, we were able to purchase quality tools such as a jig saw, disc sander and battery drills for our Skateboard Building program,” said Paul.
“Cage Engage is a new initiative we developed to re-engage young people aged 12-15 back into compulsory education. In the 8-week intervention program, we build relationships, establish a routine, address the underlying causes through case work and provide tangible incentives and skill-based projects to engage in.
“The program creates a fun and positive environment for young people. What we developed to deliver this project was a customised program/workshop trailer to take from school to school, that can be set-up as a pop-up outdoor workshop, fitted out with equipment, tools purchased from our Lendlease funding and resources for our skills-based projects and mentoring sessions.”
The Cage’s vision is to see disadvantaged and at-risk local youth have equal opportunity in their community, and have the same level of care, support, and connections needed to break away from negative cycles, overcome hardships and barriers and thrive in their future.
“Our mission is to seek out and engage with Redlands youth and families experiencing disadvantages, hardships and isolation. Through obtaining more funding, we hope to expand our program across Redlands schools. As we are self-funded and a non-for-profit charity, community funding is critical to the ongoing success of our programs,” said Paul.
Recognising the importance of building communities from the ground up, Lendlease introduced the Shorelinegrants program in 2021.
Applications for this round of Community Grants will be assessed on how well programs, initiatives or events will benefit the community of Shoreline and Redland Bay through improving social, environmental and economic outcomes.
