National Reconciliation Week 2020
Australia celebrates National Reconciliation Week from 27 May to 3 June every year. The week is bookended by two of the most significant milestones in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history – the successful 1967 Referendum acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the 1992 High Court Mabo decision.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week in 2020 is ‘In this together’. It is a time to recognise that all of us have a part to play in collectively building relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures.
The 2020 theme is now resonating in ways that could not have been foreseen when it was announced last year, but it reminds us that, in a crisis, we’re all in this together. Despite many restrictions placed on communities everywhere by COVID-19, everyone is encouraged to think differently, come together online and join in social and digital conversations as we strive for a more just, equitable nation in an environment of unity and respect.
Please join our community as we celebrate the proud heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and work towards greater understanding and respect for each other.
