National Reconciliation Week 2021

National Reconciliation Week 2021

Australia celebrates National Reconciliation Week from 27 May to 3 June every year. The week is bookended by two of the most significant milestones in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history – the successful 1967 Referendum acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the 1992 High Court Mabo decision.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2021, is More than a word. Reconciliation takes action. It is a time to recognise that all of us have a part to play in collectively building relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures.

2021 marks twenty years of Reconciliation Australia and almost three decades of Australia’s formal reconciliation process.

We encourage everyone to join in conversations as we strive for a more just, equitable nation in an environment of unity and respect.

In 2021, reconciliation is more than just raising awareness and knowledge. This year’s theme urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action.

We are inviting our residents and community partners to take a reflective walk through the week with colleagues, family or friends.  Log your walk here and at the end of the week we will tally up the community’s total kilometres travelled for reconciliation.
