Meet the powerhouse behind Hansen Constructions NQ

Mother of three and successful business owner, Jacqui Murr has a long-standing history with Townsville and Elliot Springs.  With an engrained drive to support local communities by providing job opportunities for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.

With more than 30 years in the local construction industry, Jacqui, who leads the business with her husband Dave, says her secret to success is maintaining an all-inclusive culture where each and every employee along with their families, are treated like an extended family member of the Hansen’s.

“I have previously worked for bigger companies and felt like I was just a number. When purchasing Hansen Constructions NQ, it was important to me that my staff felt valued and that they were part of team that cared about each other. I try to look after them and their families anyway I can,” she said.

to check in on their mates during a Toolbox Talk on R U OK Day.

“Family, community and building relationships with the people I work with, like Lendlease, is very important to me. We are a 100% Queensland owned and operated family business with indigenous heritage.  We are actively involved in the business where Dave and I work in the company every day, as do our two boys. We have a great committed team who turn up every day with an enthusiasm to achieve their goals and help us achieve ours.  We pride ourselves on employing local workers who deliver quality work in a safe manner.”

Priding themselves on being an equal opportunity employer with a diverse multi-skilled workforce, 15 percent of Hansen Constructions NQ workforce identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Jacqui said one of her career highlights has been the collaboration with Lendlease.  She has loved laying the foundations for Elliot Springs and watching it transform into a vibrant, family-friendly community.

“I love Townsville – it is my home!  It’s not too big, it has that small town hospitality with a big heart for supporting the local community.  I love being part of the Elliot Springs community project because it is creating a wonderful, unique environment that echo’s what is dear to me - family.

“We’ve been here from the start when our dozer sat on the hill to turn the first dirt.  We are proud to have helped create the community it has become today,” she said.  “Elliot Springs has that bush feel with the mountains as the backdrop to this beautiful area. We feel very fortunate to be working with Lendlease creating beautiful spaces within the Townsville region.”

And what does a successful businesswoman do in her downtime?

“Anytime we have time away from work, we like to spend it with our sons and our daughter,” said Jacqui.

“We enjoy relaxing at home, having some quiet time away from work with our own fleet of fur babies.”
