Meet first-time homeowners Andrea and Kurt

An exciting new chapter is about to begin for Kurt and Andrea, our newest residents in Elliot Springs. The first-time homeowners have completed their customised home build journey with Michael Case Homes, and are excited to settle into the community and make memories with their young family.

Townsville locals Kurt and Andrea and their three kids, Olivia (age 7), Elijah (age 5) and Samuel (19 months), knew they wanted to stay in the area when they decided to buy their first home.

“After going from rental to rental for years, we decided to finally bite the bullet and find a place to call home,” Andrea said. “We are high school sweethearts and grew up here in Townsville and enjoy the laidback lifestyle.”

Staying close and connected to the region was also important for the couple, who are the proud owners of two Baskin Robbins ice cream store locations in Townsville.

“We decided to buy land and build a new home because we were looking at the houses for sale in our budget, but none were what we wanted,” Andrea said. “They were either an older house, which we would want to renovate to suit our style or not the floor plan layout we were looking for. Because of this, we decided to just build to fit our budget and style.”

Customising their dream family home

The couple bought their lot of land in December 2020, and while initially discussing home designs with the Michael Case Homes sales team, were recommended an available lot of land in Elliot Springs that met their criteria. The family visited the friendly Lendlease sales team at the Sales and Information Centre to secure their block. 

“From our first meeting with Michael Case Homes, we just knew they were the ones we wanted to build with. We absolutely fell in love with their display homes, both the Pavilion and the Boat House,” Andrea said.

“I was also scrolling through their floor plan designs and found one that I really liked, so I sent an enquiry, arranged a meeting with Doug and we just instantly clicked. We felt comfortable asking for what we wanted without any pressure and felt their genuine support in helping us build the home we were envisioning.  This is our first home build, and the team at Michael Case Homes made the process so smooth and enjoyable. We are so glad we chose them!”

Creating their dream home meant selecting customisations to suit the family’s needs and lifestyle for now and in the future. 

“Our builder Michael Case Homes offers so much flexibility, with whatever customisations you would like, and helped us to plan and design our house to create exactly what we wanted,” Andrea said.

“We have made a lot of customisations in our house. We added a kid’s activity area, making sure all the kids rooms open to that space. We also added a vaulted ceiling in the entry and raked ceiling in main living area through to the patio, with triangle glass windows to let in extra light.”

The home features other customisations including a coffee station into the walk-in pantry, a study nook, big farmhouse sink, feature walls with cladding, VJ planking and colours, double sinks in the bathrooms, a makeup table with a light up mirror, and additional storage spaces.

“What we loved most about the building and design process was just making it our own,choosing the floor plan design and customising our home with things we love, and then watching it come to life!” Andrea said.

A peaceful pocket of paradise for growing families

A sense of community, safety and peacefulness for their small children was important to the couple when it came to choosing to buy land in Elliot Springs.

“Elliot Springs feels like our own peaceful pocket of paradise. It’s a beautiful suburb to live, it’s nice and quiet, with lots of young families for our kids to grow up with, and community events throughout the year for them to enjoy.” Andrea said. “It isn't too far from the city, but with all the nature and scenery it feels like your own little getaway from everything in town.”

Andrea has already joined the Elliot Springs Community group for residents on Facebook and is enjoying the benefits of being a part of a close-knit, growing community.

“There is such a great community here, we just love it! Everyone helps each other out, communicating, looking out for one another...We have already met quite a few of our surrounding neighbours and they have all been so lovely.”
