Putting life-changing financial advice in the hands of children everywhere, the much-anticipated Barefoot Kids book has now launched, featuring our very own local child entrepreneur of The Dog Shop, Ryder.
Behind the world-acclaimed Barefoot Investor series by Scott Pape, Barefoot Kids has spoken to children from across the country, gaining their financial insight, lessons and advice for building a business from the ground up.
Who better to feature in the book than local business owner, seven-year-old Ryder, who sells his home-made dog treats from the Elliot Springs markets.
Ryder recently took part in the book’s virtual launch, alongside the featured children and author Scott.
From the business' humble beginnings in Ryder’s home kitchen, Dog Shop has been building a strong and loyal following, as Townville pooches drool over the three gourmet flavours – peanut butter and pumpkin, roast sweet potato, bacon and rosemary and banana, maple and cinnamon.
Proud mum Jodi said, “the launch of Barefoot Kids, is an exciting new chapter in the growth of Ryder’s business.”
“The author, Scott Pape, wanted to hear from children who have started up their own business, finding out what their services are, business practices, how they sell and market their products,” said Jodi.
“As a family, we are thrilled to have Ryder featured in the book, as he shares his skills for how he became business savvy. We had only just got Dog Shop up and running when the opportunity to be part of the book came about and it was too good of an opportunity not to be part of.”
From the early stages of the business venture, Ryder and his mum created a business plan, product, price point and came up with ideas of where and how they could sell the treats. The Elliot Springs Markets was one of the places he decided to set up shop.
Ryder is the face and salesman of Dog Shop Homemade Pet Treats & Bribes by Ryder. He has grown his shop to now include Licki Matt's and anti-anxiety toys for dogs as well as his amazing, yummy treats.
“We are really proud of Ryder, but always emphasize that this needs to remain fun for him. Dog Shop has finished at the markets this year, but we continue to fill our orders from home and deliver to the Townsville and Burdekin areas,” said Jodi.
“Next year we plan to invest a little more in the manufacturing side of things and grow our enrichment toy range, which we currently stock. They have become very popular with our customers, not only do they help calm and reduce anxiety in the doggos, but have great health benefits associated to them too, from cleaner teeth to improved gut health. “
“We will continue to be guided by the little boss and what his vision for Dog Shop is. It’s been a great year and we’re very grateful to all his loyal four and two-legged customers.”
