King and Queen of the Springs crowned at first Bindal Ridge Fun Run
More than 50 people of all ages enjoyed a fun morning of friendship and community spirit as they took part in the first Bindal Ridge Fun Run at Wadda Mooli Park in the last weekend of July.
The sun was shining and event hosts QCWA Gator Girls (Alligator Creek, Elliot Springs branch) were thrilled with the turn out. The community event offered something for all ages and the spirit of living an active and healthy lifestyle.
Bindal Ridge is a beautiful track that locals know and love. The reward at the top is stunning views out to Cape Cleveland and Magnetic Island, the perfect backdrop for an annual fun run.
Event organiser Kate Annetts said she was ecstatic the event was a success and saw such great support from 18 local businesses.
Fun runs are a great way to motivate yourself, your family and your friends to be a little bit healthier, and work towards a fitness goal. Local fitness company, Top Performance Initiative led a group warm up for all participants on the day.
Competitors chose from a 5km run up the Moongun track on Bindal Ridge or a slower paced walk, run or stroll through a 3km track around Elliot Springs’ Wadda Mooli Park and surrounds.
King of the Springs, Jake Wilson completed the 5km track in 32 mins 40 seconds, and Queen of the Springs, Ashleigh Gunn was just behind at 35 mins 33 seconds. The first family and pet over the line were Glenn Mcleay, Kai & Wyatt Saunders. There were lots of prizes for best dressed, humans and four legged friends alike, and yummy breakfast burgers at the finish line.
