Elliot Springs leads the charge as Townsville’s only 5 Star Green Star community
An annual community grants program, the creation of Wadda Mooli Park and the early delivery of community facilities like The Hub all contribute to the coveted 5 Star Green Star – Communities rating for Elliot Springs.
Our beautiful, nature-inspired parks, streets and amenities give Elliot Springs residents the confidence that they are part of something great, delivering on our promise to create a sustainable, liveable, and healthy community our residents are proud to call home.
The rating from the Green Building Council of Australia demonstrates Elliot Springs’ ongoing commitment to both the natural environment and our residents that live here.
Lendlease Development Director for Elliot Springs Simon Walker said reaching benchmarks for a sustainable and enjoyable lifestyle for residents was central to decision making when designing Elliot Springs and aiming for the highly regarded rating.
“The 5 Star Green Star rating illustrates the holistic and long-term vision for our community, from community engagement to environmental sustainability, which add great value to Elliot Springs’ residents,” he said.
“Our large open spaces, walking and cycling paths and Wadda Mooli Park help reduce our footprint and further immerse the community the natural settings.
“Wadda Mooli Park is an excellent example of our investment in community and conservation, including the all-abilities playground designed to give everyone the opportunity to play and within the landscape the retained trees and native planting.”
Planting the seeds for sustainability
Did you know Elliot Springs will have soon have our very own community garden?
Local resident Kate Annetts (as part of the QCWA Alligator Creek Elliot Springs branch) secured a $2,000 community grant to develop the community garden.
Imagine needing fresh basil to finish off your family dinner. Soon, it will be as simple as heading down to the community garden to pick herbs and vegetables.
“As a recipient of the Elliot Springs Community Grants Program, I have been able to create a sustainable community garden that residents can use and enjoy for years to come,” she said.
“We welcome the local community to get involved in the growth of the garden, through weeding, planting or general maintenance.”
