Blossoming friendship as neighbours connect through building journey

Creating a connected community at Elliot Springs starts from the ground up, as residents share their building journey to form solid friendships with their future neighbours.

Building their own patch of paradise at Elliot Springs, residents Jharna Mullins and her now neighbour Ashlee Keam started out as strangers and have now become close friends, sharing their build journey together and planning for their future in our vibrant community.

Ashlee and her husband Diego built their dream home in Elliot Springs in 2022, falling in love with the natural surroundings, connected community feel and the future growth potential of the region.

Jharna, her husband Michael and their two young children initially chose Elliot Springs to start their new life, impressed with the amount of dedicated green space that supported their lifestyle as a young family.

“During the construction phase I decided to document our build on my Instagram and Ash found me,” Jharna said. “She recognised that the house she saw was behind hers. Next thing you know, we connected, and shared our build journey. We lived quite a distance away from here before we moved so when Ash moved in, she would send me regular construction updates to save me road tripping far too often”.

“The week we moved in Ash invited our family over for an Italian feast. We now go on regular walks and have become great friends. We both share a love of photography, so tend to go searching for great shoot locations in the surrounding bushlands”.

“I think it is incredibly important to know the people around you and let someone get to know you. It builds trust, understanding and support. We intend to raise our family here and I want our neighbours to know they are more than welcome to join in on street cricket or knock on our door if they need something. In this digital age it is so important to take time to soak in your surroundings and be grateful for what’s right in front of you.”

Ashlee said, “connection within the community, building a support system, community spirit and involvement is at the heart of Elliot Springs”.

“After initially connecting on Instagram Jharna and I have now become great friends, going on regular walks with her two daughters, enjoying our joint love of photography and connecting with other neighbours at the local community events,” she said.

“There are so many ways to get to know your neighbours at Elliot Springs. We usually go to the food truck events and take our dog to the dog park. There’s a great community spirit here.”

Getting to know your neighbours

At Elliot Springs, there are many activities, events and projects to get involved in to feel part of our local community and are a great opportunity to connect and form friendships with other residents.

Bubbles in the Bush

In honour of Parks Week, Elliot Springs’ very first festival event for the year, Bubbles in the Bush, will take place on Friday, 24th March at Wadda Mooli Park.

Hosted by Lendlease and Puft Events Townsville, this is the perfect opportunity to take a night off cooking, bring your favourite people, picnic rug, and appetite for an evening of live entertainment, roving food trucks, and a sky of bubbles.

Catering for the young and young at heart, this will be a laid-back evening, to switch off from the busy working week, while the kids are entertainment with activities, bubble themed roving characters and lots of giveaways.

Elliot Springs & Surround Playgroup
Did you know there is a regular Elliot Springs Playgroup held at The Hub?  It’s a great opportunity to connect with other families in our area, enjoy a yummy morning tea and the other kids can enjoy messy play. For more information visit the Elliot Springs Playgroup Facebook page here.
