Community grants now open! $5K funding pool on offer to support community led projects
Calling for community led projects and ideas
A key focus area of the grants program is supporting activations of Elliot Springs’ community hub. The community meeting space ‘The Hub’, as it is known by locals, is managed by the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) ACES branch.
The space caters to community led playgroups, church meets, events and workshops as well as private bookings like birthday parties and baby showers. Co-located with the all-abilities Wadda Mooli Park, The Hub’s meeting space is air conditioned, has toilets and baby change facilities, a fridge and kitchen, ample seating and a storage area for regular users.
To support the regular activation of the community space, not-for-profit and community group users of The Hub can apply for the grant funding to support their projects that demonstrate broad community benefit and respond to the focus areas of:
• Educate / up-skill the community
• Connect and strengthen relationships within the community
• Assist the start-up of community groups, programs, social enterprise
• Celebrate the culture and history of the Elliot Springs area.
• Activate public space (specifically the Community Hub or Wadda Mooli Park and sports field)
Some of the previously funded projects have included:
• A native bee hive and community education workshop in partnership with NQ Bees
• A shared community garden in Wadda Mooli Park delivered by QCWA ACES
• A park blue buddy bench in partnership with The Joyful Foundation
• First Nations games day for Yallorin delivered by Gudjuda Reference Group
• A pop up messy play visit with Townsville Toy Library
• Resources for the establishment of the Elliot Springs community playgroup
• Equipment improvements for Nome District Rural Fire Brigade
• Community events delivered by QCWA ACES including the annual Christmas in the Park
• Emergency care packs for Townsville Women’s Centre, a partnership project delivered by Apple Tree Learning Hub who are regular users of The Hub space
