Paving the way for brighter futures at Kings Central
Lendlease has partnered with Eden Brae Homes to give budding tradespeople a chance to try their hand at careers such as bricklaying, carpentry and plumbing onsite at Kings Central.
Recognising that real world experience is one of the best ways for young workers to develop an interest in a future career path, Eden Brae Homes - a leading Australian home builder established in 2000 - has developed an extensive work experience and apprenticeship program that has helped many tradespeople kickstart their career.
Once construction commences on Eden Brae builds within Kings Central, students from local schools such as Cranebrook and Kingswood High School will be able to get a taste of a trade of their choosing under the watchful eye of experienced tradespeople.
Eden Brae Apprentice Manager Bruce Kirby said work experience was a great way for school-aged children to experience a day in the life of a trade their interested in, without committing to an apprenticeship.
“Our work experience programs give kids the opportunity to decide what they like and don’t like, and ultimately, what they want to do after they finish school,” Bruce said.
“We enjoy creating neighbourhoods such as Kings Central, and it’s great to show kids that they can be part of creating big projects within their local area.
“When we run work experience programs, there is always the potential that we might find future employees, which is also a bonus for both Eden Brae Homes and the students who choose to participate.”
Kings Central Social Sustainability Manager Greg Belle said Lendlease is passionate about supporting its communities with skilling and employment opportunities.
“Lendlease has a long and proud history of establishing communities that are environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable,” Greg said.
“This partnership with Eden Brae Homes will allow school-aged children to see firsthand how a home is built, whether that’s by shadowing a carpenter, plumber, electrician or bricklayer.
“Around 150 properties will be built by Eden Brae Homes at Kings Central, so there’s ample opportunity for interested kids to explore what a career in construction is all about.”
If students in years 10, 11 or 12 are interested in partaking in Eden Brae Homes’ work experience program at Kings Central, send an email to kingscentral@lendlease.com, or speak to your school’s career advisor.
