Our neighbourhood’s newest play space is now open for play!
Kings Central’s first residents, soon-to-be residents and guests came together on Friday, 20th October for an afternoon of fun, food and neighbourly spirit as we celebrated the opening of Kings Central’s Park!
Families of all ages, including children and puppies, enjoyed food trucks and beverages, as they explored Central Park’s open green areas, playground equipment, learn to ride area and entertainment including balloon twisting and face painting.
Situated at the corner of Spinifex Road and Cargo Street, the play space caters to the diverse needs of the Kings Central community and surrounds. With a swing, trampoline, slide and climbing structure, it's a vibrant new playground for all ages and abilities.
For the older children and adults, there's a kickabout area and onsite fitness equipment to get in your daily exercise. There are also sheltered picnic tables that are perfect for birthday parties or casual Sunday picnics with neighbours.
Cultural connections and inspiration
A unique collaboration between artists, designers, and Indigenous educators, the park’s design intertwines art, education, and play. Place Design Group, in partnership with Dharug Educators and Artists Leanne Watson and Erin Wilkins, crafted an interpretive art overlay for the park, weaving a rich tapestry of culture and wisdom for our community to admire.
As you wander through the playground, you'll be inspired by the Dharug story of Wirriga - a goanna that embodies the spirit of Aboriginal connection to Country. With its eggs safely tucked in sandy mounds, Wirriga roams the landscape, teaching us lessons of protection, growth, and independence. The captivating goanna artwork is integrated within the soft fall mound design.
