Mayfield welcomes first residents

Lendlease’s newest community in Melbourne’s south east, Mayfield, welcomed its first residents at the inaugural resident’s welcome celebrations over the weekend.

Neil O’Connor, Lendlease’s General Manager for Victoria, said the event attracted a great deal of community support and was hosted by the local YMCA. Residents shared and enjoyed arts and crafts, face painting and making their own lunch at a specially set up pizza station.

“This event was an opportunity for the first residents in the community to get to know their neighbours in a friendly and welcoming environment. It was great to see so many of them here today.” he said.

Upon completion, Mayfield will be home to some 1,300 residents, boasting a local sports precinct, maternal health care facilities, a primary school and a unique children’s nature garden.

The nature garden is a natural and creative space designed around interactive and sensory learning that will be unlike any other in the area. It is expected to be completed in the spring of this year.

City of Casey Mayor, Geoff Ablett attended the festivities and said Mayfield is a fantastic asset to the city of Casey and Greater Melbourne.

“It was a great honour for me to attend the welcome event. Mayfield creates a great space for people looking to live in this area and the sense of enthusiasm for the development from the residents was obvious.

“Events like the resident’s welcome bring the neighbourhood together and I look forward to having more opportunities in the future to get to know the Mayfield community.” he said.

There is a hive of activity at Mayfield, with doors starting to open in the development’s new, boutique display village. The official opening is planned for November this year along with the next resident welcome event.
