Diamond Interchange Construction Starting in October
VicRoads has announced that the “diamond interchange” that will connect O’Herns Road with the Hume Freeway will begin construction in October.
These highly anticipated road upgrades will increase traffic flow and commutability for the Aurora community to the Hume Freeway. It has been confirmed that a total of $81 million has been committed with $55.2 million coming from the State Government of Victoria and $25.8 million being contributed by the Federal Government.
The work will occur in two stages. Stage 1 is the installation of traffic lights to replace the roundabout at the O’Herns Road and High Street intersection. That will be completed by mid 2018. Stage 2 includes the construction of the diamond interchange itself on to the Hume Freeway as well as the widening of O’Herns Road to four lanes. This will commence in early 2018 and be finished by late 2019.
These upgrades will include on road cycling lanes on O’Herns Road that connect to Galada Tamboore pathway.
