Ballarat Line Upgrade

Ballarat Line Upgrade

The Ballarat Line Upgrade (BLU) is underway to deliver more trains and better reliability for Melbourne’s outer western suburbs, Melton, Bacchus Marsh, Ballan and Ballarat. The $551.7 million upgrade means much needed extra services in the morning and afternoon peak, plus a train every 40 minutes in the off-peak. The Ballarat Line Upgrade is being delivered by Melbourne Metro Rail Authority (MMRA) in an alliance with V/Line, our Lendlease Engineering business, Coleman Rail and SMEC.

The BLU Alliance is quickly making tracks, with site preparation works undertaken over the 27-28th of January, setting up major construction to commence between Caroline Springs station and Melton. The works here will include duplication of the track, an upgrade of Rockbank station, and a new station to be constructed near the Atherstone community, near Ferris Road in Melton.

In the lead up to these major works, the BLU Alliance team have been working closely with key stakeholders, and meeting the community via a series of station pop-ups to ensure locals are informed of upcoming works and interruptions to transport services.

As part of our growing presence in the area, the BLU Alliance will be moving to the Western Business Accelerator and Centre of Excellence (Western BACE) in February, which will make the team even more accessible to key stakeholders. This will be an exciting opportunity for the alliance to further strengthen and build the social capital of the region while also working alongside the community, suppliers and local businesses during construction works.

Western BACE is a collaboration between Melton City Council and the Lendlease Communities business. It provides emerging businesses workspaces with flexible lease arrangements, reception services, client meeting rooms, high-speed optic fibre, video conferencing facilities, and assistance in business activities. Longer term, the aim of the initiative is to improve economic, educational and community opportunities for Melton and the west Melbourne growth corridor, as well as link the existing Melton township to new precincts such as Atherstone.

There will be more opportunities to meet the BLU project team throughout the project, and you can find out more about these on the BLU Facebook page.
