Celebrating Alkimos Pop Up Library Open Day
To celebrate both national Library week and Reconciliation week, the Alkimos Beach library held its first open day attracting over 200 community members through the door.
The celebration kicked off with the Alkimos, Land by the Ocean art exhibition featuring works from prominent Noongar artists Troy Bennell and Jade Dolman. The exhibition will remain on permanent display in the Alkimos Library.
Jade Dolman conducted a community mural workshop with local youth. Josie Boyle, an Aboriginal Elder, storyteller and painter was invited to share traditional desert sand stories with the audience.
At The Gateway Shopping Precinct, the play and book making area was very popular among the little visitors. They made their own books on life at Alkimos Beach, had fun with face painting and experienced the life of books inside the “book cubby”.
A big thank you goes out to the City of Wanneroo and their Cultural and Library Services team, the library volunteers, Alkimos Scout Group, Ecorp and Colliers.
