Alkimos Beach Primary School full steam ahead

The new public primary school at Alkimos Beach has moved another step closer to opening for the 2017 school year, with the name Alkimos Beach Primary School officially adopted, after being voted number one by families in the community. Chosen from a short list of four names, Alkimos Beach Primary School was the clear favourite, being the first choice for over 85% of the votes. The School Principal, Ms Michelle Wellshead, is now working closely with the Parent Planning Committee to finalise the logo design and school uniform colours in coming weeks.

The School, situated on Fairy Parade in Alkimos Beach, is one of four state primary schools currently being built in WA under a public-private partnership with Eduwest. As part of the partnership arrangement, the school’s maintenance including cleaning, gardening and general upkeep, will be contracted to and managed by EduWest, leaving the School’s administration to focus more on students and their learning.

Carefully considered design has enabled an additional teaching block to be included, along with purpose built art/science and music rooms.  A naturescape playground and sensory garden with aromatic plants will feature in the Early Childhood area and solar panels have also been included on the roof of the school. The design is enhanced by a bright interior colour scheme which uses splashes of turquoise blue and mandarin orange to create a really cheerful learning space.

Staff appointments are underway for the school and as of Term 4, the new staff will be working out of a classroom at neighbouring Alkimos Primary School preparing for next years opening. In 2017, the School will have classes from Kindergarten to Year 6. Parents should check the School’s Facebook page for updates. Enquiries about the school can be received via Alkimos Primary School reception on 9562 9800.
